Katarzyna Szpicmacher and Aleksandra Kantor first met over a decade ago while working at the same Warsaw-based architecture studio. They bonded over their shared passion for biomimicry (the practice of learning from nature for design) and their commitment to sustainable practices and the ethical treatment of animals. Deciding they wanted to make a difference beyond architecture, in 2018 they left design practice to found Bio2Materials. To help bring their vision to life, they enlisted professor Artur Bartkowiak, an expert in polymer extraction with a passion for converting waste materials into valuable resources. Since, our team has continued to grow as we continue on our journey to pioneer new generation materials.
Our Team
Between 2018 and 2022, our intimate team trialled many materials and processes – from waste apples to a water-free production process – in our journey to produce a premium alternative to leather. Through extensive experiments and trials with discarded cocoa husks and walnut shells, we created Nutico™. Our exceptional, premium-texture leather alternative features repurposed bio-fillers, requires no water, and is fully biodegradable.

Technology meets nature in our Warsaw laboratory.
Here, we use cutting edge development methods to turn natural waste into high performance textiles.
